SWEET POTATO PIE!- Baby Buccio Week 18

Hi Fan Club!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! And what a better way to kick start Monday than with a Maya update! Maya is the size of a sweet potato! (or as my grandmother and my dad's wife say "eso no puede ser! esa niña esta grandisima ya!") Seriously, I am going to eat this baby by the time she hatches. Officially hit week 18, which means I'm entering my 5th month. Yikes! Time flies but I'm having the time of my life enjoying this ride. Never thought I would enjoy pregnancy as much as I am. It's a trip! It also allows me to put so much into perspective- what's important, what's petty, who matters, who doesn't. Add 'enlightening" to the list of adjectives used to describe pregnancy. It's a free philosophy class and no attendance taken.

So much going on and cannot wait to fill you all in! For starters, Casa Buccio is under major renovations with a new kitchen, new baby room, and new paint job! Can we say nesting?! Coco is an amazing project manager and we spent the weekend packing up the house (me at a very slow pace) and getting it ready for today's start date. The house is upside down and our room looks like a bad episode of Hoarders. While Coco holds the fort (and the dogs) down, I'll be residing with Boni for two weeks! It's been years since I've had a roommate! But I'm looking forward to spooning with her, watching old movies, and ordering takeout. (I hope she feels the same way).

My belly is growing and it looks great and by the way, I'm still rocking the skinny! I mean, just because I'm preggo, doesn't mean I can let myself go?! What would Maya think?!! My jean extender is coming in handy since most of my pants are not closing. But that's okay, bc most of my tops still do and that is great. Oh, I have a new craving. Officially stuck on Dunkin Donuts breakfast wraps, specifically the bacon, egg and cheese! Random but yum.

And the best news of all! On Saturday, we felt Maya (at least this is the first time we didn't confuse the movements)! After listening to an hour of Belly Buds and sitting on the couch watching TV, I felt little bubble flutters (and this was NOT gas). It was insane! So in awe and so cool! I wanted to feel her forever! But that's all we got. Then last night, while Coco talked to Maya while in bed, we felt it again! It was unbelievable! You guys, WE'RE HAVING A BABY!

Tonight, Karla, Bonita, Maya and I are going to downtown to listen to Pitbull rock the house! So I'll expect some dance moves coming from within. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again for all your love and support!

GETTING NAILED.

Fall is officially here and while many women are pounding the pavement in search of this season's "it" boots, fur vests, and Marc Jacobs cargo jacket, one little thing is often overlooked- nail polish. Yes, ladies! (and gents who love to dab in a little nail art) Nail polish is just as important and fashionable as your newest pair of opaque tights. Nail polish might be a small accessory, but it makes a BOLD statement. Did I mention it's also inexpensive? And just imagine how GLAM-AZING those nails will look against a shiny new Chanel or for the stylish recessionista, a leather satchel from Coach's latest collection?

So many new colors have hit the shelves for the cool season and I already have some favorites I'd love to share with you! The dark shades are back- bigger and better than ever. The purples and burgundies are making a splash on the scene. And for those ladies who rather keep it warm and conservative with just a hint of color, there are some fabulous nudes and beiges that will go perfectly with any wardrobe. And let's not forget the metallics. So let's break it down.

DARK GREY

I'm officially obsessed with Essie's Power Clutch, so much so, that I bought my own bottle in case the salons do not carry it. I'm actually wearing it right now. It is the most impeccable shade of grey and really coordinates well with any outfit. Plus it's glamorous! I'm all about dark colors. I'm a loyal fan of Chanel's Black Satin; I can't live without it. But it looks like Power Clutch is a close second. I haven't tried this one but it's next on my list- Uh Oh Roll down the window (NY, NY) from OPI's Tour America Collection, which is absolutely brilliant! I would say its a bit grayish, a bit greenish. Almost like smog. And no one does smog chic like New York City!

GREENS

We saw green make an appearance in the fall of 2009 with OPI's Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow. I lived for that nail color. Green can be a tricky color. It's not usually aesthetic on nails because it can look sickly or slimy. Now in 2011, the greens are more fashion forward. Two colors on my radar right now are Deborah Lippman's Millionaire and MAC's Deep Sea. They're rich, edgy, and unapologetically chic.

PURPLES AND REDS

Some ladies can never give up their beloved reds but this season, take a little risk and get a little wild, sexier even, with a burnt burgundy. Essie's Carry-On (so appropriately named) is the perfect shade. This color is a definite head turner! The purples we saw on the runways are daring but fun! These promising eggplant shades are toasty and scrumptious. So vibrant! Play it up with Zoya's Petra or OPI's Honk if you Love OPI (Baltimore, MD).

NUDES AND BEIGES

It's okay if you aren't dying over the dark and groovy shades this season. Maybe you are more subtle and that's alright. There are some light colors you can rock with confidence and style! One of those being Essie's Glamour Purse. A pinkish beige that is a great neutral staple for any fall closet. It's a silent showstopper!

METALLICS

You are on a mission to get noticed and a metallic shade is blinding! Chanel takes the cake this season with three very different shades of metallic sure to fit every woman's personality. Graphite is a metallic black for all you dark nail lovers. The shine gives it an extra rock and roll touch. For the ladies who love the nudes and beiges but want to dress it up a notch, Quartz is the look for you. Peridot is all about the bling bling with its shiny gold tint. Wear at your own risk because these colors are fierce!

I promised myself I wouldn't cry!- Baby Buccio Week 17

Hear ye! Hear ye!

It's been an eventful and exciting week in the Buccio household. For starters, we no longer have to refer to our baby as "it". Phew! No need to accelerate self-esteem issues in the womb. And to share the news once again, because it just never gets old, WE ARE HAVING A GIRL!!!! Tutus, tiaras, and tea parties! Our kind of girl. As you can imagine, Coco is over the moon! He is such a lady lover and is looking forward to Alice's Tea Cup dates with his little bambina! Our gender reveal fiesta on our roof was a huge success with friends and family celebrating and toasting this miracle of love. You know how they say that when you have a baby, it feels like you are the ONLY person in the world having a baby, or for that matter, the only woman in the world who has ever had a baby?? Yeah, it totally feels that way. I remember hearing that when I was non-baby fan and thinking how self-absorbed and/or silly these women are. NOW I get it. I'm pretty fluent in self-absorption but I have to tell you, when it does happen to you, the feeling really is indescribable. Ok, back to baby.

We are happy to announce as well, that we have picked out a name for our beba. Many of you are familiar with our name journey and we couldn't be more delighted and happy with our choice. Maya Teresita Buccio. Her name means so many things, from "divine creative force in everything" to "mother" and "great one." More importantly though, "Maya" was my grandmother on my father's side, who played a momentous role in my life. She was your typical stereotypical abuela, who's kitchen always smelled like delicious food, wore a mumu and slippers, and had white hair I would love to tie up in little ponytails and make her answer the door for the mailman that way. I also would play and jiggle her arm fat, which now when I think about it, wasn't very nice. But it made me laugh so she didn't care. She taught me how to read in Spanish at the age of 3 (Don Quixote) and played Spanish Guess Who, Connect 4 and Parcheesi with me. She would make me kool aid pops, natilla, and we would sit on her plastic couches and listen to 8 track music from Django, Braulio, and Rafael. I have wonderful memories of my childhood because of her. When I told my dad the news, he cried like a baby. (he's an ugly crier) and that cemented even further for us that the name we picked was "the one". The middle name "Teresita" is my mother's name. Some of you knew my mother, some of you didn't, but I wish you did. My mother was not only a wonderful, intelligent, and beautiful person who was full of life, she was also an incredibly loving mother (only with me though). A disciplinarian we often nicknamed "Hitler", she sacrificed so much so that I could have the best of everything- education, home, and life. It sounds cliché, but she has made me who I am today. It is only now as an adult that I am able to understand and be grateful for everything she taught me and prepared me for. I thank God that I was blessed with her as a mother and friend. I could go on forever on this email with stories, memories, anecdotes- some that will make your head spin, others will make you laugh in agreement. The only thing I can say is that I hope that I can be the kind of mother that she was to me. And everyday I will talk to Maya about her amazing grandmother (who would probably have not wanted to be called abuela) and how she was always perfectly dressed with her Barbie pink lipstick, acrylic nails, and blonde hair (bc a woman should NEVER be under dressed according to Teresita and she is very right), loved to dance salsa and listen to Frank Sinatra, go to the beach together at Crandon Park and tan with her baby oil and iodine (which she would also make me slather on so I could get the perfect tan..that didn't work out well), and loved to flaunt her cleavage! (like mother, like daughter).

Moving on to how I'm feeling- FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! Seriously, I feel wonderful and pregnancy is agreeing with me. I have nothing to negative to say about it (except for the nausea at the beginning and the back pains that are constant) but talk to me in the last months when I'm ready to pop. I went to the doctor today for a baby check up and doc said everything is looking and sounding "great!" Maya was awake- again. I think she wants to see/hear us as much as we do! Doesn't seem like this baby sleeps though. hmmm. I've gained 7 pounds so far in the pregnancy. No beached whale just yet here!

I think that is enough for this week! I feel like I wrote a book report for you. Deep thoughts by Kathy Buccio. Thank you for coming along on this magic carpet ride with me. See you next week when we graduate from an onion to a, who knows. Another fruit or vegetable I imagine.

Let's make some guacamole ese! = Baby Buccio Week 16

Well hello, hello, hello!

Here we are at week 16 and guess what?? Baby Buccio is now the size of an AVOCADO! Is it just me, or does this baby just get more delicious???!

I'm feeling fantastic and thankfully, everything is moving along swimmingly! Not sure if I mentioned in the last update, but Ive gained 6 pounds and definitely not denying myself any food pleasures as they come along. No new cravings but I am obsessed with my Naked fruit and veggie juices. Absolutely love! Im not big on veggies and fruits normally, I'm a preservative kind of girl, but these juices are great and make me feel healthy in an instant. I also went back to my pre-natal yoga and I am SO into it, especially now that I can enjoy it without the nausea. And can I tell you, there are actually people out there that are less flexible than I am! Um, that's amazing. (not for them, but yes for me) I feel like Mary Lou Retton in class! Not only is it helping with stretching and flexibility with my lower back pains which have been painful and not so hot (too much weight on this little frame!) , but it is also so calming and zen. I'm all about that.

I'm equally obsessed with my latest purchase, the Belly Buds (pic attached), designed for babies to listen to some tunes in the womb! The baby has ears and they say starting this week, it starts to hear noises and sounds, though muffled and a bit distorted but it never hurts to start young. Education starts in the womb! So this weekend, I introduced Baby Buccio to the Black Eyed Peas and Coldplay. And a big thanks to Tia Betsy who got Baby B it's very own ipod nano. Coco uploaded all it's Rockabye baby lullabies (Madonna, Kanye West, Beatles, Journey, etc) as well as Baby Mozart. I'm clearly going to try my hardest to avoid all those cheesy and annoying kid songs that make you want to throw yourself out a window. We'll see if it works!

And lastly, Coco and I go this week to find out the baby's sex!!!!!!! We are so freakin' excited! Because waiting 20 weeks is just not an option for someone who doesn't like the word "no", I made an appt with an ultrasound office that does gender tests for a fee starting at 14 weeks (New York's version of La Ideal in Miami!) I'll be chugging the Coca Cola to make sure that baby gets a little slutty and opens it's legs! It's the only time as a parent I'll be saying that. So fingers crossed it cooperates.

Anywho, that should wrap it up. I hope you are all enjoying the updates as much as I am writing them. This is such a fun, weird, exciting, and sometimes hysterical learning process and it's only just the beginning!

Fly the Friendly Skies at Your Own Risk.

I think it's safe to say that I'm an easily annoyed individual. I have very little patience and tolerance for many things. I'm also BIG on manners and basic etiquette so my disapproving stares and comments are not so far fetched when you check the source. I mean, you have to be a total buffoon not to have etiquette essentials engraved in your psyche. And I think manners, in combination with some other important traits, form the basis and likeability of any individual. Shame on your parents for not instilling them, and shame on you for being so stupid that you can't pick it up in old age.

With that said, I'm always shocked and disgusted when I travel and I see people blatantly engaging in such primitive behavior- acting as if they are sitting in their living room couch and not on a 747 with 200 people. Um, hello? See us? Yeah, we are the other 199 passengers. You're gross. Airplane etiquette is not that hard, minions. You should behave the same way you would if you were in public. Such as, clipping your nails might be stimulating for you, but I guarantee you the passenger sitting next to you holding that paper barf bag is so not impressed with your self-applied pedicure. Same goes for eating the most ill-smelling meal you could possibly pick up at the food court. Did you really need to eat a tuna sandwich? You couldn't go for a pizza, or a veggie sandwich, or even some Au Bon Pain? Was tuna the ONLY food choice available at this mega plex airport? If I were sitting next to you, I would smear the tuna all over your face and see how you like to smell that for the next three hours just for being inconsiderate. No bueno right? Too fishy.

My personal favorite, or should I clarify the etiquette no-no that really sets me off, is when passengers seem to think that because you have a designated seat and that you'll be travelling for x amount of time, that it is perfectly okay to remove not only your shoes, but your socks as well. So I have to stomach your ugly feet with unruly hair leaning against the seat for the next few hours? And to top it off, picking your nails and scratching your soles because it "feels right?". You are the most foul and unabashedly trashy individual I've ever encountered. I can't even look beyond if you're a good person or not, because your feet (and manners) speak for themselves. No one wants to see your naked feet. It's gross. Put some socks on. No flight is long enough for you to be barefoot. You should be escorted off the flight and made to wear a sign that says "My mother forgot to teach me basic manners." And walking up and down the aisle barefoot?! Don't even get me started. Where were you people born??!

Another plane violation that seems to happen frequently is passengers who refuse to listen to the flight attendants, seat belt signs, and pilot announcements. Don't be rude. These flight attendants are doing their job and keeping us safe in the air. So when the nice lady or gentlemen says that you shouldn't "congregate in the restrooms" (especially in post 9/11 era) then please don't. You'll be more comfortable in your seat than clogging the aisles and bathroom by standing outside the restrooms. Trust me, you'll get to tinkle (note: Gerard Depardieu is NOT a good example of this). Plus passengers don't need to suffer unnecessary panic attacks because you and your two friends MUST recount your recent all nighter outside the restrooms. Seat belts? I think its pretty self explanatory. It means to stay seated and buckle up. The sign covers every language across the board so you have to be a total moron not to understand it. If you fall during a bout of unexpected turbulence, I'm going to laugh at you. Lastly, when the pilot and/or flight attendant asks you to please not block the aisles when finding your seat so that other passengers can go through, it doesn't mean to please block the aisles as you stare and count the rows looking for your seat and there's a massive line that has started to form bc a) you can't count or read b) it is taking you ridiculously forever to put your carry on in the overhead bin. It's not rocket science. Wheels first.

Parents with kids. It is NOT cute when your child kicks my seat. It's rude. Smack your kid or tie him down. And when I turn around and ask you nicely to please have your child stop giving me unpleasant back massages, don't give me the "I'm so appalled you would ask" face. Control your kid. You're the parent right?! Or I can kick you and see how you like it.

I think we covered enough ground on Air etiquette. I'm sure we all have horror stories to share and I would love to hear them. And just for the record, no persons in the accounts above were hurt for the purpose of this blog post.

Here's to you. Here's to me.

Kathy.

ORANGE you glad you're a good lookin' kid?! - week 15

Hello Glamazons!

Hope you all had a lovely, wonderful, and relaxing Labor Day weekend! The Buccio's sure did! Well, we'll have to confirm that with Coco.
The bulk of our Saturday was spent doing our baby registry at Buy Buy Baby. First off, this place will drive you 1) to drink 2) insane 3) did I mention, to drink??
After over 4 hours of going up and down baby aisles with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos and bottles and diapers, we accomplished our registry! (and still had our sanity). (http://www.buybuybaby.com/regGiftRegistry.asp?wrn=%2D1958428876) It's about 85 percent done. Need to adjust and add a couple of things once we find out the sex of the baby (hopefully in 2 weeks!) But I couldn't do this alone. I had a registry cheat sheet thanks to some super chic moms who shared their infinite wisdom so it wasn't as overwhelming as it had the potential to be. And Coco was happy since he got to be the designated item scanner with his cool gun and he got to pick out the stroller color and accessories. That kept him entertained.

Had a doctor appt this past week to follow up on the NT scan and everything is looking perfect and the exam came back with the highest score possible. Well duh, do we not know this baby's annoyingly overachieving mother who was a straight A student?! Got a quick glimpse of the baby and it was swimming around having the time of its life. This assured me of 2 things: 1) this is not a lazy baby. 2) this baby can swim like his dad which is fantastic considering his mother only knows how to doggy paddle and never passed the swimming test at Venetian pool. waa waa. If this baby is a boy, you know he will be rockin the Speedos!

So I'm officially 15 weeks! (that's 3 months and 3 weeks) 6 months to go! Baby is the size of an orange. Isn't that surreal and just fruity?! I'm feeling like myself again in this second trimester. No more nausea. Amen baby Jesus! I did have to change my toothpaste because it was making me gag. So purchased some very fancy bubble gum flavored Dora the Explorer one to make my routine gag-free. I get indigestion from time to time, which is normal. As well as nasal congestion/minimal nose bleeds which is also normal and a product of the estrogen causing parts of you to swell. Still get tired but not as horrible as the first trimester (that first trimester kicked my ass- and won). My cravings haven't fluctuated much. Still craving kettle cooked potato chips, turkey meatballs, bistec empanizado, phish food ice cream, pizza- basically anything salty and fried. BUT I do make a conscious effort to keep it healthy as well with some salads, veggies, fruit juices, and egg whites.

I want say THANK YOU to those of you who email/text me almost everyday to check up on me, see how I'm feeling, and how I'm doing. It's the little things, but it really means a lot to me. Can I just say, enjoying this city and my social life altogether sober is a whole different experience?! Wowsers. That's not to say I don't miss my champers and vino (I'll soon start to enjoy my one glass of spirits a week!). But seriously, it's a whole new and different world. Inevitably, things will change with this new experience. Life, relationships, friendships, travel buddies, restaurant reservations, etc. It's just what happens. C'est la vie. I'm excited for the changes, scared, but excited. I continue to feel so blessed and happy with all that God has given me in life- both good and bad. I look at my husband (and personal chef), my friends and family near and far, and everything around me and think, I wouldn't change a thing.

Kat.

When life gives you lemons... (week 14)

Saludos peeps! (see little hand waving above!)

Hope everyone is doing well! I know, I know. I'm a bit late on my weekly Baby Buccio emails, but blame Irene bc I was stuck in Mexican paradise! Either way, better late than never. I'm a little over 14 weeks, and it appears that Baby Buccio is now the size of a lemon! When life gives you lemons, make a beautiful spiked lemonade! Anywho, my excitement keeps growing. It's just something I have never experienced. And I guess it's something you really can't comprehend until it happens to you. That and you finally reach that point in your life when you aren't so anti-kid.
I'm feeling tons better! Now that I've entered my second trimester, I've seen my energy come back in droves. What a difference from those first couple of months. However, I'm still lazy. Don't think that'll change! lol. Not as nauseous, thank goodness! And still eating lots of ginger dressing with my salad and turkey meatballs (and kettle cooked chips), which keeps my belly quite content. Speaking of belly, sporting a very sexy beer belly right now! Does look like I'm knocked up. And I'm loving it! Always have the urge to rub it, like I' granting myself some wishes. Ha!

Next week I'm going to start doing something I rarely ever do----- exercise! Well, yoga. Next week I'll be working on my fitness getting a bit more flexible (if thats even possible for me) Besides, if not, my exercise nazi, ahem Coco, will never get off my back! (that's what she said)

Well, that should wrap it up! We have a doctors appt today with the Wu so very very anxious and happy to see our little lemon on the big screen! Thank you all for your love and support and hopefully soon, we'll be finding out if this little thing is sporting a hamburger or a hotdog!

GUESS WHO'S KNOCKED UP?!

IT'S OFFICIAL! I'M SHOUTING IT FROM THE MOUNTAINTOPS (AND FROM ALL THE SOCIAL MEDIA STEP STOOLS I CAN FIND!) I'M PREGNANT!

And you know I had to do it big, fabulous, and totes adorable!

Check out my official "coming out" announcement. Um, 100 points for me for not embarrassing my baby. Seriously, it is absolutely perfect. I couldn't have done it without two very important people though.

Adri P. - the most talented and design efficient person I know. Not to mention she is one of my closest friends in the world! She is amazing! Since I am the furthest thing from being creative, (it completely overwhelms me and that's what you pay people for anyways) Adri was able to take my arroz con mango idea and implement it into exactly what I had in mind. And its perfect!

Cookie- my kick ass sister-in-law, mother of 2, amateur photographer who captured the genuine excitement and giddiness of two deer-in-headlights parents to be! lol.
The pictures spoke for themselves. And those 2 supermodels in the pics (no not Coco and I!) those aren't child models, those are my two gorgeous nieces, Sadie and Summer.

Enjoy! I will be doing weekly updates on my pregnancy journey.

Kat

The BIG one! Well, the first big one.

So excited to share some new developments and photos from our First Trimester NT ultrasound this morning. Today we experienced one of the most amazing feelings I think one can ever experience. Many times, you hear about that feeling of amazement and wonder parents-to-be get when they see their baby actually looking like a baby and moving around with no care, but you never know what that actually feels like until it happens to YOU and the feeling really IS indescribable and surreal. So out of this world, in fact, that at the sight of Baby Buccio on that machine, brought me to tears for so many reasons, but mostly because of sheer happiness (yes, this tough chick is melting). Like I said, the baby is looking like, well, a baby! No longer like a cone head or a cute alien. We saw its nose (looks like mine!), its legs kicking and his hands flapping about (obviously super athletic like its mother!). It was wide awake for a one-on-one with his already neurotic parents! Even saw a little bit of the lips (looking like Coco, my bembon!) After a thorough check-up of all the machinery down there, the technician was kind enough to show us a 3D version of Baby B and we died when we saw it covering its eyes with both its little hands. No more pics please! lol. It was adorable. We can't wait to meet this little bebo/beba!
And for the kicker- baby is actually 13 weeks old! After measuring the baby, it looks like my due date is now Feb. 26, 2012! Must be all that bacon I'm eating =) No idea if its a hamburger or a hot dog just yet. Looks like week 16 might be the week!
As far as to how I'm feeling, still a bit nauseous with occasional vomiting, but not so bad and honestly its quite tolerable when you think about what (or in this case, who) is making you barf! Baby forgiven. Big shout out to Coco for being the most kick ass husband and dad in training. He has really been taking unbelievable care of me.

Check out my baby's photo shoot above!Baby was as a big as a plum in week 12 but we fast forwarded to a peach due to the ultrasound's developments!

Thank you all for being so supportive and always checking up on me! It's a nice feeling to know how much love this baby already has!
